Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
